Private colleges frequently ask for one or two recommendations from teachers and a counselor recommendation (school report).
Some colleges also welcome letters of recommendations from coaches, employers, or others who know you well outside of school.
Less frequently a college might request a recommendation from peers or parents.
Larger public universities are less likely to request any sort of recommendation.
Don't forget to write a thank-you to those who write for you!
