Hourly Counseling Topics
Evaluation ServicesUpdate Session (anytime) -- We will review the student's progress on all fronts -- college search, high school, testing, and application activiites -- and update timelines and goals.
Previewing the Application (anytime after July 1) -- The student will select which application to review (Common, University of Washington, University of California, or other), and we will go over all the components of the application in detail and get the student started with the online version. Do It Yourself: The Common App.
Narrowing the College List (usually fall) -- We will discuss the student's potential choices, narrow the list if necessary, and make sure the list is manageable and represents an adequate range of selectivity. Do It Yourself.
Preparing for the Interview (usually fall) -- We will discuss interview strategies and conduct a mock interview. Do It Yourself.
Brainstorming Essays (anytime) -- We will discuss essay strategies and brainstorm essay topics for the Common Application (or an alternative of the student's choosing). Do It Yourself.
Organizing the Application Process (fall) -- The student will bring application materials for all the colleges on the final list and we will review the application requirements for each one. We will then fill out a variety of checklists designed to keep the process organized and on track. We will also set timelines for application activities. Do It Yourself.
Other Issues as Needed (anytime) -- I am happy to discuss any topic anytime with a student or parent or both.
